Are there any anti-aging supplements that work?

There are money products with claims out there to help you have younger skin. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of companies that prefer to take the position of a snake charmer and sell you magic water with wild claims.

It’s hard to find the right supplement with so many options out there. You can get them in the form of vitamin pills, energy boosters, etc.
When looking at products, focus on these key supplements.

Anti-aging supplements that work

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that serves many purposes in our body. The two that are most important in terms of skin care is that of an antioxidant aid in the synthesis of skin collagen. Humans are not able to produce vitamin C inside the body and must ingest it through diet or vitamin supplementation. If you are deficient in vitamin C you may be susceptible to a disease called scurvy.

Studies have shown that vitamin C decreases oxidative stress in cells. This helps cells grow normally by detoxifying and repairing any damage in the cells. Overall vitamin C helps produce healthy skin, slow the wrinkling process, and gives you a more vibrant complexion.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that protects against wrinkle forming UV radiation, environmental skin damage, and dullness. It is a great source of antioxidant which protects the body from free radical damage. Vitamin E also has anti-inflammatory properties, making it important in cell turnover.

It is best to get Vitamin E naturally. Studies have not shown vitamin E supplements to greatly benefit healthy people. As always, check with your doctor to find out what your body needs to improve its health. Vitamin E can be found naturally in vegetable oils, olive oil, nuts, oats, dairy products, and grains.

Resveratrol

You’ve heard about the benefits of drinking red wine. Experts have found the substance in red wine that is good for you is resveratrol. Resveratrol is a natural compound found in grapes, berries, and peanuts. Studies have shown it has promising antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer effects. It’s thought to act as an antioxidant, protecting your body from damage that can put you at higher risk for heart disease, cancer, and slow the aging process altogether.

The best supplement for resveratrol and antioxidants is Reserve.

Glucosamine

Glucosamine is an amino sugar. It is a necessary component for building cartilage and connective tissue. Studies have shown participants reduced fine lines and wrinkles by 34% on average. Some studies suggest it can accelerate wound healing, decrease wrinkles, and improve skin hydration when taken as a supplement.

Coenzyme Q10

This nutrient, similar to vitamins C and E, contributes to overall health and appearance of your skin. It is naturally found in every cell of the body and is used to produce the energy that cells need to grow and repair. Coenzyme Q10 is promising as a youth enhancement nutrient. One trial found a reduction in wrinkles only took two weeks of use.

Selenium

Selenium is one of the key minerals to fighting cancer and preserves tissue elasticity. It is a natural antioxidant and works with vitamin E to boost the condition of body growth and fertility in some metabolic processes. Recent animal studies have found when taken orally or through the skin, selenium also provided protection against UV damage. Sources of selenium include whole grain cereals, seafood, garlic, and eggs.

Hesperidin

Are you having trouble with varicose veins? Hesperidin is a bioflavonoid that can help you. Varicose veins happen when your veins lose strength and become bent and out of shape. They usually look like dark purple bumps under the skin. There are a few factors that play a role in how severe these can show up as we age: genetics, excessive constipation, poor nutrition, and being overweight.

Hesperidin is found in citrus fruits, particularly in the peel and white stringy area. You know, the part we throw away. Hesperidin helps by increasing the tightness, or venous tone, of your veins, reducing stasis, and lowering inflammation. Stasis is when poorly moving blood, pools in the veins.
Hesperidin works most effectively when it is used in combination with a flavonoid called diosmin. One study found that those who took hesperidin and diosmin together for 6 months had visible improvement in varicose veins.

Polypodium Leucotomos Extract (PLE)

PLE comes from a fern found in Central America and has a long history of use as a folk remedy. It combats sagging skin, discoloration, and sun damage by preserving the skin’s fibroblasts, which build and restore collagen. PLE prevents sun damage by increasing the dose of UV radiation it takes to make skin burn. This is promising because that may mean it will help to reduce the risk of skin cancer. Those with allergies to ferns should avoid PLE.
